About Gladys Porter Zoo
The Gladys Porter Zoo is a 31-acre zoological and botanical park in the heart of Brownsville, Texas, home to roughly 1,600 animals and lush tropical plants. An AZA-accredited zoo since 1978, it features habitats organized by world regions, plus a Herpetarium, Aquarium, Tropical America Free-flight Aviary, and the family-friendly Small World area with a nursery and animal contact yard. Opened in 1971, the Zoo is known for its conservation work and successes in breeding endangered species.
