About Palace Theater
A historic Art Deco cinema in downtown Marfa, the Palace Theatre began as the Marfa Opera House before becoming a movie house around 1930. After a projection room explosion in January 1937, it was rebuilt in a Streamline Moderne style and reopened on June 19, 1937; it has been closed since the 1970s and today serves as a local illustrator's studio. The theater is noted for nightly screenings in 1955 during the filming of 'Giant'.
